False Responsibility Does God Need Me

Why do we allow a false responsibility to come over us, thinking we need to lead or be the one who makes things happen?

It’s all up to us, or it won’t happen! We as leaders, parents and adults. In my own life as a musician, put on ourselves a false responsibility at times. Sometimes we don’t even know we do it!

As an example, in my life I am a part of a ministry called HODO HEART OF DAVID ORANGE. We play in a band all over our region. I put on myself this false responsibility that I am the one needing to have a list together or songs prepared. I am the piano player so I have put on myself the responsibility to make sure we have some idea where we are going musically, but I am realizing this is a false responsibility I have allowed it to weigh me down and have a false burden that never should be there.

I see God is trying to show me where I have allowed this since of false hood to be in other parts of my life as well, I’m not sure if this article is for anyone else but I know it’s for me, for sure.

Where have you allowed false responsibility to come into your life?

Lord, help us to let go of these false burdens you have never intended for us to carry. Guide us and show us these areas where we need to be free. Teach us to let go of feeling we need to be in control all the time…….

Let’s look at what the definition of false responsibility is. False responsibility is an attitude when you feel responsible for things that, objectively, you aren’t responsible for and shouldn’t feel responsible for. How much stems from childhood experiences, how our parents raised us up?

False Responsibility from Childhood

In my childhood I was brought up in church so seeing my parents take on so much responsibility is an understatement. My dad was a pastor, so a lot was put on him and I am sure he dealt with false responsibility. How easy it is to start doing so many ministry programs and feeling like if I don’t do this it’s not going to survive without me. Without realizing it we become self-centered, prideful, that we become the problem instead of the solution.

This is just one example, I am sure this can be all through our lives thinking we are so needed but in reality, we are not! We don’t realize how we respond or react can make all the difference in the world. We can become bitter and cold toward others and not even know it is happening. It is like the enemy using us like a pawn next thing we realize we have built walls and barriers and not let anyone in. All the while, thinking we are protecting ourselves but truly alienating ourselves from others and from God.

These aren’t things you hear a lot about, but I think God is showing me in my life how false responsibility can really bring chaos and confusion. This is a tactic used to tear us away from God and God’s people. How it can make my relationships become dysfunctional and stop my spiritual growth with God.

So, the scripture that speaks about making things right with your brother or sister is so important in our relationships especially with God. Matt 5:24

Leave their thy gift before the alter, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift Matt 5:24

It is so important to make things right with each other, I feel God is trying to take me further into Him, but I have all this animosity, false burdens, and unforgiveness toward others. It stops things from flowing and going deeper with God. So, we see false responsibility can affect relationships with others, God, and yourself. We need to be aware and combat these tendencies in our walk with God and others.

Pride in our Life

In my experiences in life, I can see how pride can creep in. Anytime you think God needs you to do something for Him it is pride.

THE IDEA THAT GOD NEEDS US TO KEEP THE WORLD

{any world} SPINNING IS PRIDE AND NOTHING MORE

Jesus says His yoke is easy and His burden is light Matt 11:30

Be careful we can collapse under a weight not our own! Please heed these words carefully sisters and brothers in Christ, I keep dealing with this over and over in my life. GOD DOESN’T NEED US PERIOD— THAT IS THE LIE OF THE ENEMY!!! So, false responsibility is a type of pride thinking we are needed.

Do you think we will always deal with pride in our life?

What is the opposite of pride?

Humility

Humility is the opposite of pride! Humility what does that truly mean? The Biblical meaning of humility is believing what God says about you over anyone else’s opinion, including your own. It requires embracing who you are in Christ over who you are in the flesh. To be Biblically humble is to be so free of concern for your own ego that you unreservedly elevate those around you. Humility is a grace that attracts more grace. Pride closes the door to spiritual growth, but humility opens the door of your life to more of God’s grace. To the humble, God gives patience, peace and gentleness. The fruits of the spirit grow in the soil of humility. Humility is the key to spiritual growth. We look in the scriptures in 1 Peter 5:5

Clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble 1 Peter 5:5

Humble in the Strong Concordance speaks about not rising far from the ground, lowly of low degree, lowly in spirit.

Humility- humbleness of mind, lowliness of mind

Attributes of Humility

  • Humility puts others first.
  • Humility refuses to fight for position or authority – it knows when to bow down or step backwards in order to express and promote the character of Christ.
  • Humility is a giver
  • Humility is gracious, even when showing spite would come more naturally.
  • Humility is patient because it trusts in the Sovereignty of God.
  • Humility replicates the sweetness of Christ’s humility

Who doesn’t need God’s grace in their lives? What is grace mean in the context of this scripture the Concordance speaks about that which affords joy, pleasure, delight, sweetness, charm, loveliness, lovingkindness, and favor. Paul Zahl sums it up

“GRACE IS UNCONDITIONAL LOVE TOWARD A PERSON WHO DOES NOT DESERVE IT”

Jesus the Greatest Example of Humility

From the moment of His birth, the

Savior taught humility through His actions. the great creator of all things agreed to be born in to the humblest of circumstances. Read Spotless Lamb to hear more about our Savior.

As Jesus began to perform miracles in Galilee, His fame spread throughout the region. Jesus went all about healing the sick, setting captives free, preaching the gospel, all the while, repeated “See thou say nothing to any man”. Jesus repeated this instruction after many of His miracles, reflecting a deeply desire that it be done and received in humility and in private.

Following His miraculous feeding of the 5000, some among the multitude wanted to make him their King. But Jesus ignored the intoxicating influence of the praise of the world, departing into a mountain to be alone.

On another occasion Jesus rode triumphantly into Jerusalem the crowds shouted words of praise, however, Jesus chose to ride upon a donkey, a recognized messianic symbol of humility.

Service is always an opportunity to cultivate humility. Jesus demonstrated this when He knelt and washed the feet of His disciples. Finally, in His hours of greatest suffering, Jesus subjected Himself to the Father. And in His greatest act of humility, He allowed Himself to be hung upon the cross. We see the greatest example of humility is Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

I want to leave you with the words from Jesus in Matt 5:3-10

Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven
