The Simple Things

I like old bookstores, the smell of coffee brewing, rainy day naps, farmhouse porches, snuggly puppies, and sunsets. I like the sweet, simple things that remind me that life doesn’t have to be complicated to be beautiful. Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.

It’s been said that nature is our greatest teacher and that’s definitely the case here. The natural world offers so much understated beauty. If we can learn to take our time and see God’s beautiful nature, it can be so comforting and relaxing. Everything from wildflowers in a field to the stars in the night sky, whatever your preference, there’s sure to be something in nature that speaks to your heart. Whatever it is, make an effort to pay attention. Practice makes perfect and the more you notice natural beauty, the more you’ll notice all of life’s simple pleasures.

Enjoying The Simple Things

Ultimately, the key to enjoying the simple things is letting go. Stop worrying and don’t overcomplicate it instead, practice being in the moment and let it be fun!!! Of course, it doesn’t hurt to simplify your life but remember that simplicity is a journey, not a destination. It’s a lot nicer if you learn to enjoy the ride!!! I’ve learned in my walk with the Lord it’s the journey that matters not just the destination. We need to learn and grow in the journey.

THE SIMPLE THINGS IN LIFE:

  • Watching the sunrise
  • Morning tea or coffee
  • Hugging someone you love
  • Growing your own vegetables
  • long walks in the countryside
  • Lighting a scented candle
  • Coming home after a trip away
  • Walking through autumn leaves
  • Seeing puppies play together
  • Cooking your favorite meal
  • Having a shower or bath after a long day
  • Belly laughing with a good friend
  • ice cold tea on a hot day
  • Cozy up with a warm blanket straight from the dryer
  • Your favorite movie on a lazy Sunday afternoon
  • Beautiful sunset

There are so many wonderful things in life that we take for granted. It feels good to think about the simple things.

What are the simple things that make your life joyful?

What are your tips for slowing down and enjoying them?

Simple Pleasures

Simple Pleasures

In general, simple pleasures can be deferred as experiences that are positive, brief, and usually emerge in everyday settings. Furthermore, they are usually accessible to people at little to no cost. Often, simple pleasures are incredibly personal.

It doesn’t have to take much to be easily impressed. In fact, by actively paying attention to the positive things around us in life, we can be easily impressed by the beauty of life. To truly appreciate the simple things in life we have to:

  • Look for the good stuff
  • Appreciate the small miracles that occur around us all the time
  • Focus on the fantastic aspects of people and situations
  • Let go of arrogant, prideful notions like “I already know that”, or “No big deal”, or “I’ve seen it all.”

When we’re hard to impress, we also make it hard to be happy, grateful, and fulfilled, which are fundamental parts of a happy life. When we are grateful for the things around us, it makes us feel more positive, gives us more energy, and helps us acknowledge the goodness of God in our lives. We should never underestimate the power of gratitude. Practicing gratitude is a great way to appreciate the simple things in life.

We always choose what we pay attention to, what we focus on, and what we appreciate {or don’t}. Commit to yourself to enjoy the simple things in your life in a genuine and on-going way and see what happens!!!

Why We Should be Grateful

God commands us to be grateful not only because He deserves it {which He does} but Because practicing gratitude can give us the strength and Joy that we desperately need!!!

Practicing gratitude is about giving Glory to God and uplifting your own soul. It means acknowledging your present difficulty while gently leading your heart to also see the many ways God is actively moving and providing in your life. It is taking the time to actually feel gratitude for things that we often take for granted and remember: the goal isn’t simply to check an item off our good Christian to-do list. Gratitude helps us have a real encounter with our Living Loving God. He wants you to experience the “Fullness of Joy” that comes from His presence. And the more you grow your gratitude muscle, the more you’ll be able to cling to the joy God promises you no matter what is going on in your life.

When we reflect on the countless real, tangible ways God has blessed us. We can’t help but stand in Awe. Our Faith is strengthened, and our joy is invincible, this is why learning how to practice gratitude is so important. If the mind is a battlefield, then practicing gratitude is an essential weapon in the fight for our Joy in Jesus. Simple things in life do matter. Let’s not forget the Simple Things and have a heart of gratitude daily in our lives.

How We Practice Gratitude

Putting God 1st

We must put God first no matter what. He is our Lord and Savior! When we wake up! We should open our Bible let him speak to us in His Word! Talk to Him when we first get up, (yes!) even before or while we drink our first cup of coffee or tea!

Humbling Yourself

Don’t let pride get in the way of truly appreciating what God has done for you and given you. By allowing ourselves to be humbled before God, we start to enjoy and be thankful for all that is going on in our lives.

Let God lead the Way

He is the one who knows every single thing about us: past, present, and future… He is both omnipresent and omnipotent and that is why we should trust that He knows what is best for us.

Give Thanks to God Always

And give Thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Ephesians 5:20. We are told to always give Thanks! Have a heart of Thanksgiving!

Being Content

The Word tells us to be content in all things. Not that I speak in respect of want for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. Phil 4:11. Oh, how we need to learn to be content as Paul talks about no matter what the circumstances are, we should learn to be content.
